Seek Wisdom

Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding. For wisdom is more profitable than silver, and her wages are better than gold. Wisdom is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her.

Proverbs 3:13-16

Today it seems that we see people seeking fame, fortune, power, position, possessions and even knowledge as if these things will bring them joy. In reality, God gave us the answer to the question, “What will make me happy?”

This passage of scripture from Proverbs tells us that real joy or contentment comes from having wisdom. The writer of Proverbs, Solomon, was known as the wisest man to ever live. All I know is that wisdom is what we should seek to bring us fulfillment in life. When we have wisdom our lives are filled with peace and confidence in all the decisions we make. When we operate with wisdom, we are prepared to help others solve issues in their lives. When there is wisdom we can bring input into every phase of our lives. Our family, our workplace, our churches, even our communities will benefit from wisdom that God gives to us. When we have wisdom many residual benefits will come.

True wisdom can only be obtained from God. Certainly you can get wisdom from information you gain from educating yourself or from advice you obtain from others. But the ultimate source of all true wisdom is God. God is not hiding wisdom from you - He is simply waiting on you to ask for it. His intention is clear; He gives wisdom to those that ask so that you will understand that He is your source for everything in life.

I ask the Lord daily for wisdom because I know my thoughts and my ideas are not good enough and I’m not smart enough to use my own abilities to navigate this life. By the way, asking for wisdom is an instruction given to us by God.

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.
